What fun Chloe has been having!
Great advice there Chloe!
Some tasty baking by Hannah.
It looks like Hannah is having fun experimenting too.
What a great time to learn new skills, well done Hannah!
You were concentrating hard with your art work, Sonny, well done!
Have you made a rainbow like Sonny has?

Colorado Class Wed 1st April

Wishing you all a wonderful April. Only two days to go until it is the Easter holidays.

If you are looking for some different things to do, I have some ideas here for you.  For Literacy, you could write the Easter story in your own words, using the sequenced pictures from yesterday to help you.  I have also found some Easter multiplication mosaics to help you practise your times tables with. Have you done your Geography project yet? It was to research all about river pollution.  If you look in your home learning pack you will find details about the project. I had provided some websites for you to use.  You could create a poster to show what you found out.

Sonny has been making 3D shapes.
He has also been creative in other ways!
Look at your gold award from all the super work you have been doing!

Colorado Class Home Learning

Thank you to all the children who have sent me pictures to post on the class page. Let’s take a look at what you have been up to so far.

William has been working hard on different maths and literacy activities.
Alex has been busy baking.
Bringing fractions to life using cakes.
Alex has also been keeping fit with Joe Wicks.

Oliver has been conducting his own science experiment.

Keep up with the wonderful activities you are doing, it fantastic to see you having so much fun learning from home.

Colorado Class Tuesday 31st March

Good morning,

It has been wonderful to hear from you and to see all of the amazing things you have been up to. I have especially enjoyed finding out how you are taking the opportunity to use your writing skills to write letters to different family members.

Well done to Callum for doing some outdoor learning!
What neat maths work you have done there Callum!

Following on from the Easter story PowerPoint yesterday, here is a task to sequence pictures from the Easter story into the correct order. If you cannot print off the files, draw 6 of your own pictures to show the main points of the Easter story.

Here is another maths challenge. How many eggs? https://nrich.maths.org/939

For Science, I have provided a PowerPoint about classification keys based on characteristics of animals and there are a range of different activity packs for you to choose from (the stars shows the level of difficulty-more stars means trickier work).

Don’t forget to keep in touch and send in any pictures you would like me to post on our class page on the school’s website.

Keep smiling!

Monday 30th March

Good Morning All,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are set for your next week of home learning before you start the Easter holidays.

I am giving you a few ideas of extra things that you might like to do this week so you have something a bit different than what is in your home learning pack. Feel free to pick and choose but please do not feel you need to complete everything as I am just providing alternative options.

For SPaG there are sentence correcting sheets. While for literacy, there is an Easter story powerpoint for you to read through and become familiar with.   The following websites are available for online books to read. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/ or https://connect.collins.co.uk/school/portal.aspx (click on teacher and log in with the user name Parents@harpercollins.co.uk and the password Parents20!)

If you would like some extra maths work, here is a link to an online maths challenge.  https://nrich.maths.org/2002/index

In French we were due to learn the words for different body parts so I have left a learning pack to get you started.

Don’t forget, you can get in touch to let me know what you are doing.

I hope you have a fabulous Monday.

Fri 27th March

Good morning and happy Friday to you all!

Well done to you all for almost completing your first week of home learning. Thank you to those of you who have been in touch. It has been wonderful to find out about what you have been doing and to know you are enjoying this new way of learning.  I am glad to see you are happy and having fun! If we were at school today, I would make you all ‘star of the week’.

Well done Tobie for all of your efforts this week. You made these yummy looking jam tarts.

Well done Levi for impressing your mum with your knowledge of angles and perpendicular lines.

If you would like a picture of you or your work added to the website, send me an email with permission from a parent.

Have a great weekend and stay safe!

Colorado Class Thurs 26th March

Dear Colorado Class

I hope you are having a good week and are now settling in to learning from home.

Today would be our ‘Maths Morning’ so I thought I would provide you with some extra maths sheets, just in case you wanted some more work to do.  Where possible, I have provided the answers.

You would normally have PE and Music this afternoon. I thought maybe you could try some of the PE challenges in your pack or, if you haven’t already, try a work out with The Body Coach. For Music, if you have your recorder at home with you perhaps you could practise playing that. Here is a link to some music from the BBC, School Radio service. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/2bL2NL6Cwlsj2Cs4BXkvg9X/primary-music

Tomorrow would usually be our ‘Literacy Morning’. I know I have given you some persuasive writing to do but I wanted to let you know about a poetry competition that you could enter.

The Young People’s Poetry Prize 2020 competition is to celebrate the work of the Cornish poet Charles Causley. It aims to encourage and enable young writers to have a go at writing poetry themselves.

To inspire the young poets of the future to write their own poetry, this year’s theme for the competition is ‘Environment’.

The competition is free to enter and open to all young people aged between 5 and 18 years old. Poems will be judged by Patrick Gale and a panel of poetry judges with prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category.  Deadline for entries is July 31st 2020.’

Here is a link to the website for more details, including the entry form. https://causleytrust.org

I have been wondering how you are getting on with your home learning pack. You are all very welcome to send me pictures of your work or the other exciting activities that you have been up to. If your parents give their permission, I could post some of your pictures on to our Colorado Class page on the school website. Alternatively, you could send me a message to let me know how you are getting on.

I am thinking of you all and hoping that you’re all feeling happy and enjoying the sunny weather.

Colorado Class Tue 24th March

Dear Children,

I hope you enjoyed your first day of home schooling yesterday. Have you managed to work out a routine to your day? What work have you completed so far?

I wanted to let you know about a competition you could enter. Medicspot has launched the ‘Hand Wash Challenge’. They are calling on all primary school children to share their creative ideas to help encourage frequent hand washing. You could make a poster, film a video, record a song, do a science experiment or write a poem about handwashing.

The top entry will receive £500 for their primary school and 10 runner-ups will receive £100 for their primary school. There will also be a downloadable certificate for every entry received.  For more information, look at the website: www.medicspot.co.uk/handwash

I mentioned to you last week about how Joe Wicks, the Body Coach, is holding a daily PE session at 9am, called PE with Joe, which you could join in with. Here is a link to his first lesson. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rz0go1pTda8&feature=emb_title

Do you fancy playing a game? It is called ‘Seeing Squares’. Players take it in turns to choose a dot on the grid. The winner is the first to have four dots that can be joined to form a square. https://nrich.maths.org/13125/note

I forgot to include some science work for you to do. Should you wish to do some, please find attached a science lesson you could try in the safety of your garden. Don’t forget to ask your parents for permission first!

Have a great day!

Colorado Class Seed Germination

The results from our seed germination investigation.

“We found out that a seed will germinate in the dark, but it soon stops growing. The seeds germinate better when they have sunlight and they are healthier too.” Ruby Group.

“We found out that seeds will germinate without soil, but they germinate and grow much better if they are planted in soil.” Sapphire Group.

“We found out that seeds will not germinate without water, the seeds need water to germinate.” Topaz Group.

“We found out that seeds germinate quicker and grow taller when they are kept in warmer temperatures.” Emerald Group.

Colorado Class Germination Investigation

Colorado Class investigated the different factors that might affect seed germination. The children planned their investigation, making sure they conducted a fair test. They made predictions about what might happen and then they observed  what happened to their seeds.
